Crestron iPhone Control

Crestron's iPhone application, Crestron Mobile, is now available from the iTunes store and allows control of a Crestron system from either an iPhone or an iTouch. We tested the application today and found it performed well in our test environment with control of a CP2E processor, dvd player, cable box, HDTV tuner, and music server.

Crestron Mobile is intended by Crestron primarily for remote access to a Crestron system for HVAC, lighting, security and other simple applications. They have another product in devlopment for release later this year called Crestron Control that has enhanced capabilities making it more suitable as a touchpanel interface for complete control of a system including A/V equipment and music/video servers.

MLX-2 Now Shipping!

The new handheld remote from Crestron, the MLX-2 just began shipping and we programmed our first one today. It's phenomenal! At a price point similar to the popular ML600, the new remote offers two-way communications in addition to more hard buttons. The two-way capabilities and LCD screen on the new unit allows the MLX-2 to be readily used for control of iPods or other music servers, as well as allowing greater flexibility in programming. As a service to Crestron dealers and programmers we posted a complete MLX-2 project to the Crestron Yahoo group that anyone is welcome to use (with attribution) in their own projects.

CommandFusion iViewer

We've recently been testing CommandFusion's iPhone application, CF iViewer, and have found it makes an interesting alternative for control of Crestron systems. Not only does it support Crestron control, it also can control AMX systems as well as other systems that can be controlled via TCP/IP (such as Lutron, RTI and even WinAmp on a PC).

While it is more difficult to develop for because of their own design application, guiDesigner, the application is easy to learn and offers unique capabilities not available in Crestron's upcoming Crestron Mobile application, such as page rotation, text input, and analog sliders so may be a better choice for some applications and is worth checking out.

Tri-Z Quality Training

Humane Interface is the only CAIP with a strong Quality background, with our founder having authored numerous IT policy and procedure documents, membership in the American Insitute of Quality (ASQ) as well as IT leader for ISO 9000 certification at a major Medical device manufacturer.

That same focus on quality, accountability and consistency has made Humane Interface one of the leaders in Crestron programming. Now, we're taking it to the next level, with Try-Z training.

Try-Z is a continuous improvement process developed and perfected in the Japanese automotive industry, which has become the standard for Quality, Cost, Delivery processes in many different industries. Humane Interface is instituting global training of it's programmers in the Try-Z system, beginning in April, with implementation at all branches by June.

Training in the program will be done personally by Peter J. Paola, CEO and Founder of QCDSM, a leader in quality improvement training who counts Kraft, Richard-Allen Medical, and Amway among their customers.

Virtual ML600

HumaneInterface demonstrated the first "Virtual ML600" today as a demonstration of its new eControl interfaces.

The Virtual ML600 is a onscreen replica of the popular Crestron remote control, but can provide 2-way feedback for volume and source selection. All functionality of a physical remote can be replicated, but the Virtual ML600 runs as a eControl application on the customer's PC or laptop.

As with other eControl projects, the Virtual ML600 can be run from anywhere in the world if there is a internet connection back to the customer's home.

In addition to the Virtual ML600, HumaneInterface also demonstrated virtual keypads that can be used to provide the customer with quick desktop access to lighting or other simpler functions.
